Scenes from the Beach

people-1

At the annual Florida’s Birding and Photo Fest — Our field experience group met at Anastasia State Park near St. Augustine at 0615. The park rangers drove us out and on to the beach to photograph for the next 4 hours. Driving on the beach was so cool! Kevin Karlson, a noted bird expert, was our leader.

Sex on the Beach

It’s that time of year for Royal Terns. I was fortunate to observe a gathering of these migrating birds in  Anastasia State Park. Our group of 9 was led by a noted birder, Kevin Karlson, in a field experience during the Florida Birding and Photo Fest last week. Kevin is also an avid photographer.

In the photo above, the male offers a fish he’s caught to a female. She can accept or reject the offering. Other interested parties are standing by just in case she turns away her suitor.
